The Newkirk Alumni Center is a distinct campus destination and the front door for UCI, a place that is welcome to new students and returning alumni.

They needed environmental graphics program was to elevate the exterior and interior appeal to increase traffic of students and alumni. The goal was to activate the space with graphic applications that were meant to change over time and to provide a range of different experiences, from formal meetings, gathering of friends and a place to showcase past achievements.

VIA Lounge stands for "A Very Important Ant Eater" and represents the schools' students and alumni, their past and current achievements, and pride in their unique anteater mascot. To showcase this pride we used branded environmental elements throughout the space that tells a compelling story.

Clean, architectural elements found in the building, the anteater mascot and the monumental representation of the school became the inspiration for the environmental graphics in the VIA lounge.

“The Cove” features iconic, ‘instagrammable’ moments. A few options were proposed for that purpose in the VIA Lounge, as in other locations in the building.

An installation of a Wooden Tile Wall was also designed, both functioning as a divider for the meeting space and to honor the school’s alumni.
